Numba One-Numba Ten -- About the author ---- Nat Helms

Nat Helms is a 50-year-old freelance writer living in St. Charles, MO. From January, 1968 until Thanksgiving Day, 1970, Helms was a soldier in Vietnam. Following his service there Helms became a police officer in Galveston, Texas while he attended the University of Houston. After graduating in 1981, Helms went to work for the now defunct St. Louis Globe-Democrat newspaper. Following its demise in 1987 Helms worked as a reporter for the Associated Press, the St. Louis ABC television affiliate, and various local publications before deciding to become a freelance writer. In early 1993 Helms went to Bosnia for five months to cover the civil war then raging as a stringer for various regional and international wire services and broadcasting networks. During his stay in former Yugoslavia Helms criss-crossed the entire region on foot, using local transportation, or hitchhiking. His tour ended in early July when he was injured in Sarajevo while filming Serb and Bosnian Muslim forces contesting control of the Presidential Palace. When not writing Helms freelances across the Midwest as a computer systems engineer specializing in the design and implementation of NT 4.0 local and wide-area networks. He has been married for 25 years and has two children, a Basset Hound named Bart, and a tank full of fish.
